Each year hundreds of students start college with the hope of someday applying to medical school. However, many freshmen are unaware of what it takes to make becoming a medical doctor a reality. The Pre-Med Edge is a day of information, advice, and resources that will be your catalyst to starting the school year strong. And getting your college career off on the right track is a key ingredient to putting your best foot forward when it comes time to apply to medical school.
Who Can Participate If you are an incoming University of Minnesota freshman and are considering Medical School and a career as a physician, The Pre-Med Edge is ideal for you. It does not matter which college you will be entering in the fall — CBS, CLA, CFANS, CEHD, CSOM, IT, CCE, or Design — this program is for you! Learn About Academic requirements needed to be a competitive medical school applicant Out-of-classroom experiences needed to be a well-rounded applicant Different types of physicians and what they do, including listening to and speaking with a surgeon during a live surgery (via videoconference) Medical School through the eyes of students already in Medical School
Program Fee The program fee is $75. Lunch is provided. Scholarships are available to waive the program fee if cost is a barrier to attendance for this educational experience. It will be held at the Health Careers Center, based out of 2-565 Moos Tower, on the East Bank of the Minneapolis campus at the University of Minnesota.
