Upcoming sessions of Scrubs, Gloves & Microscopes from the 2011-2012 included these health professions listed below.

Please note:

  • Some sessions fill up quickly. We will update this website regularly as sessions fill up.
  • Upon admission for a session, confirmation will be sent via email to all registered attendees. Look here for details on the application process and materials.
  • An additional email covering "day of event" details will be sent to all registered students approximately two weeks prior to your program date.

Pharmacy

Friday, October 28, 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Pharmacists are the drug experts working closely with customers, patients, and other health care professionals. What would a career in pharmacy look like? Find out the variety of possibilities as you meet with students, admission staff, and pharmacists from the College of Pharmacy.

Veterinary Medicine

Wednesday, November 16, 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Visit the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus to hear from veterinarians and the admissions staff about careers working with animals and what it takes to get into a Veterinary Medicine program. Learn how to conduct a physical exam on one of the resident four legged friends and explore other parts of the College of Veterinary Medicine. 

Medical Doctor: Surgeons and Specialists #1- SESSION IS FULL!!!

**Tuesday, December 13, 8:30 a.m. to Noon** (Date change due to lab availability)
Being a surgeon is a challenging yet rewarding career path. This program will introduce you to the life of a surgeon and the many areas of medicine one might specialize in. You will step inside an OR and practice your suturing skills while also getting “hands-on” with the tools used in a minimally invasive surgery. Insight from medical students, medical school admissions professionals, and surgeons, will help you understand what you need to do in high school and college to enter this competitive, demanding, but very rewarding career path.

Caring for Kids: Pediatric Health Careers - SESSION IS FULL!!

Thursday, January 12, 9:00 to Noon
Do you like children? The field of health care provides many avenues in which you may specialize in working with this unique population such as a pediatrician, pediatric physical therapist, neonatal nursing, pediatric occupational therapist, and a pediatric dentist, to name a few. If you like to help children, this session will introduce you to careers just for you.

Nursing

Saturday, January 28, 9:00 a.m. to Noon
This very hands-on program will introduce you to the many tools (EKG, pulse oximetry, catheter, vital sign measurements, and more) and techniques that are important in the nursing profession. Learn from students and faculty more about the nursing profession and what it takes to enter nursing school and become an RN.

Dentistry

Thursday, February 16, 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Experience the high-tech teaching and learning environments of the School of Dentistry. Admissions staff and students from the school of dentistry will help you understand what it is like to be a dentist and what it takes to get into dental school.

(This program is the same as the December Surgeons and Specialists program. Please do not apply for both.)

Sports Medicine Careers - SESSION IS FULL!!

Tuesday, April 24, 9:00 to Noon  **(Date change due to program partner availibilty)**
Sports medicine is a broad field with careers relating to the care, treatment and prevention of sports related injuries. Career areas you might explore within sports medicine include: clinical medicine, physical therapy, kinesiology, sports nutrition, orthopedic surgery, athletic training, and sports psychology. Explore the human performance lab, the University of Minnesota Recreation Center and hear from students and professionals from a variety of sports career areas.

Physical Therapy

Friday, April 13, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Doctorate of Physical Therapy students will introduce you to the “tools-of-the-trade” that a physical therapist would use in their profession. Get a first-hand look at how to use ultrasound, electrical stimulation, thera-band exercises, assistive devices, and many other modalities. Learn about the different career areas and opportunities within physical therapy. Find out how to best prepare yourself for admission into PT school.

Discoveries and Breakthroughs: Exploring Careers as a Health Researcher

Thursday, May 3, 9:00 to Noon
Cures for cancer, breakthroughs in treatment for diabetes or halting the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Find out what it would be like to be a researcher, dedicated to discovering ways to making people’s lives better.
